We’ve all been in situations at work when someone says or does something that feels hostile or offensive to some aspect of our identity. These kinds of actions — insensitive statements, dismissive comments, condescending attitudes and exclusions from opportunities and decision-making processes - are called “microaggressions” and can come from both men and other women. With more than 2/3 of all women reporting that they have experienced microaggressions in the workplace, clearly, it’s a pervasive and damaging issue and can in fact negatively impact one’s health, one’s job satisfaction, and one’s desire to advance in their career.
